Grown in Britain (GiB) was established a decade ago to bolster the domestic supply chain and reduce dependency on imports through enhanced forest practices. This mission resonates deeply with us, and ercol are proud to be the first UK furniture maker to collaborate with GiB to produce furniture from homegrown timber at scale. Through this partnership, we now offer a select range of classic Ercol designs made exclusively from British ash. These pieces, including the Marino chair and sofa, and our Pebble nest and coffee tables, have been selected based on known timber volumes to ensure consistent production and quality. As the availability of homegrown timber grows, we plan to expand our range to include more items and styles.
Sourcing more raw materials from within the UK is a crucial aspect of ercol's sustainability journey. Moreover, using timber to create furniture locks the carbon dioxide captured by the living tree for the furniture's lifetime and beyond.
The GiB range is also stimulating investment throughout our supply chain, proving that working with sustainable British timber is both commercially viable and environmentally responsible. This is a significant step forward, and we are excited about continuing this journey in the future.
